Wine Spectator’s Harvey Steiman Declares Eroica “A Hit”

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

wine-spectator-logoeroica_bottle1If you’re not yet familar with our joint venture with Chateau Ste. Michelle, Eroica Riesling, be sure to try a bottle soon.

Here’s what Wine Spectator’s Harvey Steiman had to say about it recently.

“Most recently, I popped a 2005 for guests to drink before dinner and through a first course of spaghetti dressed with asparagus pesto (Mark Bittman’s recipe from a recent New York Times article). Under its top layer of white grapefruit and floral character, the wine showed plenty of minerality, which rose up more prominently against the mild asparagus flavor. 90 points, non-blind. It was a hit.”

Do I hear $18,000? Loosen package nets big bid at Classic Wines Auction.

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

When the auctioneer’s hammer fell at the 26th annual Classic Wines Auction on March 6 in Portland, Oregon, Loosen raised some serious loot for charity.

A trip to visit Dr. Loosen in Germany (four days hosted by Ernie!) was one of the top-selling lots at the auction. The trip, donated by Loosen Bros USA with airfare contributed by American Airlines, sold for $18,000 at the auction, which raised more than $2.3 million for five charities.

The Classic Wines Auction is one of the top five charity wine auctions in the United States, according to Wine Spectator magazine. This year’s honorary international ambassador for the event was none other than our own Ernie Loosen.

Another Loosen Bros. USA donation of a weekend in Seattle and tickets to the Riesling Rendezvous, an event co-sponsored by Dr. Loosen and Chateau Ste. Michelle, raised an additional $4,000 at the auction. Read more.

Giuseppe’s Ristorante Features Saint M

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

giuseppesVisiting Bend, Oregon this week, Dr. Loosen fan Todd Hudson had dinner at Giuseppe’s Ristorante, a much-loved Bend restaurant that features Italian cuisine. (Todd reports that his wife first ate there about 20 years ago. Took one bite of their eggplant parmigiana, got up, went into the kitchen and hugged the chef.)  Looking for a light glass of something to start off, Todd was thrilled to find Saint M by the glass on their wine list.

Next time you’re in Bend, try Giuseppe’s and have a glass of Saint M!

Saint M is a joint production of Washington’s Chateau Ste. Michelle and Dr. Loosen.  Here’s the description from the Saint M page of their web site. See the page for more details about Saint M.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Presents Saint M
As the leading producer of American Riesling and the award winning Eroica Riesling, Chateau Ste. Michelle is proud to introduce Saint M Riesling, a classic German Riesling made by famed German winemaker Dr. Ernst Loosen.

With his modern world view and his traditional approach to winemaking, Loosen’s Saint M unmistakably says Riesling, Germany and Dr. Loosen. The Dr. Loosen estate brings over 200 years of winemaking tradition to Saint M. For centuries, the Loosen estate has produced only Riesling from old vines in Germany’s Mosel and Pfalz regions.

Chateau Ste. Michelle has been producing Columbia Valley Rieslings for over 30 years. Saint M Riesling is a fitting addition to the winery’s lineup of diverse, highy acclaimed wines.
