Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

We were very happy to welcome a group of sommeliers from the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group to the Mosel valley on Sept. 13. There’s nothing like seeing these steep vineyards first hand to gain a true appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into producing wines from this area. Here we see the group in the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard.

Jancis Robinson Picks Dr. Loosen for WineFuture Hong Kong Tasting

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

We’re delighted to share the news that celebrated wine columnist Jancis Robinson, MW, has listed our Dr. Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett 2008 as one of 14 wines for the upcoming Grand Tasting, which is dedicated to great and up-and-coming wine regions, at WineFuture Hong Kong 2011 on November 7.

Ms. Robinson proposes for her tasting to “stimulate the taste buds with a hand-picked selection from some corners of the wine world that deserve more attention.”

The WineFuture Hong Kong announcement says: “The famous British wine writer will conduct a tasting of wines, for over 1.000 participants, from new and old world regions that deserve more attention, for drinking, collecting and investing. ‘These are very high quality wines coming from some of the more established wine producing regions plus a handful from emerging markets such as Brazil, Turkey and China’.”

Will you be attending WineFuture Hong Kong? If not, you can still taste our Erdener Treppchen wherever you may be!

We are Mosel fans, because?

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Last week a group of Kimpton tour guests happened to be visiting Dr. Loosen for the weekend of the Mosel Weinfest in Bernkastel, the largest wine festival in the Mosel Valley. The Mosel regional trade group had a booth (“Gibt der Mosel ein Gesicht” = “Putting a face to the Mosel”) where they were taking photos of visitors and asking why they liked the Mosel.

Here’s the photo of our four guests and their reply to the question, “We are Mosel fans, because…?”

“Wir sind Mosel-Fans, because we love Ernst Loosen.”

Left to right: Daniel Lobsenz, wine director of Poste Brasserie in Washington DC; Amy Goldberger, wine director of Fifth Floor in San Francisco; Marian Jansen op de Haar, wine consultant for national restaurant chains; and Maureen Trippe, global accounts director for Ste. Michelle Wine Estates.
