Throughout the summer (June 21st – September 22nd) Wild Ginger will be offering what they describe as a “giant selection of earth-shatteringly good Riesling by the glass – something old (at least 12 years), something new, something unusual (like a ultra-brut sparkling Riesling), something blue (our Dr. Loosen Graacher Himmelreich Stablay Kabinett made especially for Wild Ginger, which comes from only blue slate soil) and a whole lot of other great wines.” There will be special informative (and interactive) Riesling lists, as well as special Riesling menus consisting of Wild Ginger delicacies paired perfectly with amazing Rieslings.

Riesling Haiku Contest

Jake Kosseff, Company Wine Director and Haiku Judge for Wild Ginger

Wild Ginger’s Company Wine Director Jake Kosseff and Heed the Hedonist blogger Jacqueline Pruner are running a month-long Riesling Haiku Contest! The rules are simple: Before 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 6th, 2011, post your best haiku as a comment on the Heed the Hedonist blog. More specific contest instructions on the blog.

The prize? A magnum-sized bottle of the 2008 Dr. Loosen Graacher Himmelreich German Riesling (Spätlese) … which the winner will be required to accept in person at the Seattle Wild Ginger location (so they can photograph the winner with the prize). Ernst Loosen in Moscow

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Hello friends!

Ernie Loosen here and today I’m in Moscow. We had a great meeting and dinner in the 5-star Hotel Baltschung Kempinski with Food & Beverage Manager Björn Nöldner and Head Sommelier Ksenia Karpenko, who knows my wines already from the Maldives.

The Kempinski has the most stunning view of all hotels as it looks to the Kremlin, Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral. See more photos on our Facebook page.

The Walls Go Up at J. Christopher Winery

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Phase 2 construction is proceeding apace at the new J. Christopher Winery, a joint venture between Jay Somers and Ernie Loosen in Newberg, Oregon.

Here are a few photos of walls going up at the new winery.

Setting the walls in place. An enormous crane was brought in to lift the extremely heavy, pre-cast concrete walls into place.

Putting the wall in place. The walls are massive, but precise positioning is critical so that all the pieces of this gigantic puzzle fit together just right.

White Fermentation Building. The first walls to go up are for the white fermentation building, adjacent to the future fruit receiving area (aka crushpad).

Celebrate the Fourth…With Riesling!

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Riesling is the perfect summer beverage. Refreshing and low in alcohol, it’s just the thing for sipping on a warm lazy day. If you’ll be celebrating the Fourth of July with a barbecue or cookout this weekend, try pairing Riesling with your grilled dishes.

HOT DOGS
Riesling and hot dogs are a great pairing. Which Riesling you pair with your dog depends on what’s on top of it.

Mustard? Try our Villa Wolf Dry Riesling for a crisp and cleansing experience.

Catsup and/or sweet relish? Go with Dr. L Riesling to match the sweetness in the catsup or relish.

Grilled onions and mustard? Sip some Robert Weil Dry Riesling (from our Friends of Ernie collection) to match the richness.

Grilled onions, jalapeños and/or hot sauce? Cap the fireworks wtih Dr. Loosen Kabinett Blue Slate. It’s crisp and cleansing, with a bit of sweetness to cool the palate between bites.

RIBS
If you’re going whole hog with barbecued ribs, which Riesling you choose depends on your recipe.

Dry spice rub? Perfect with Dr. Loosen Red Slate Dry Riesling.

Sweeter barbecue sauce? Try it with our Dr. L Riesling or even Dr. Loosen Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese if the sauce is pretty intense.

Whatever’s on your picnic menu, hope your Fourth is filled with fun! And don’t forget, restaurants across the USA are doing their Summer of Riesling celebrations so keep an eye peeled for a tasting near you.
